The Eight Traits of a Disciple of Jesus

What is a Disciple?

Throughout the New Testament the word “disciple” is used 250 times to describe the followers of Jesus.

A disciple is a person who is being transformed by the Spirit into the image of Christ. Someone who is becoming more and more like Jesus by walking in step with the Spirit.

Who am I pouring into?

Week Eight: Multiply

Spiritual multiplication is intentionally pouring your life into those who will pour their lives into others. We do this by investing relationally, staying Jesus-focused, and giving away authority.

Worship

How does my love for Jesus show?

We were created to worship. Worship is a way of life that declares Jesus is my first love; it’s not just singing in church on Sunday. Worship is the passion of your heart and the perspective of your mind. Whether in times of suffering or celebration, the life of a disciple declares the worth of God.

Listen

How am I living out God’s Word today?

Listening is hearing and doing the words of God. A real disciple not only hears what Jesus is saying but takes it to heart and lives it out. True disciples of Jesus take His every word very seriously. They live in His word.

Pray

What am I talking to God about?

Our relationship with God involves an ongoing, two-way conversation. God speaks to us as we listen to His Word and His Spirit. But then God waits for us to speak back to Him through prayer. Prayer is an ongoing conversation to God about anything and everything.

Restore

How am I facing things that hold me down?

As disciples we invite God to search our hearts to reveal what needs to be healed. We are all in need of some deep work; some going back to go forward; some healing of wounds from the past. We are all on this journey of restoration together.

Connect

Who are my 2 am friends?

Growing disciples are connected in real-life community. Forming authentic, Christ-centered, soul-talk relationships is how we connect with one another. Disciples make room for regularly connecting with other disciples throughout their week – not just on Sunday.

Give

Where am I serving and giving?

A real disciple of Jesus is generous with their time, talent, and treasure. Giving and serving – extending ourselves without expecting anything in return – are foundational reflections of the true nature of God.

Go

Who is in my top 3?

Jesus told His disciples to go and make disciples. True disciples share their faith winsomely and effectively with the people in their sphere of influence. At Oak Pointe Church, we want to know Jesus and make him known – to be disciples that make disciples.

Multiply

Who am I pouring into?

The whole early church was built around multiplying discipleship. It was life-on-life; one person pouring into the next. As modern-day disciples of Jesus, our goal is no different. As you walk in step with the Spirit, don’t keep it to yourself. Pour into the life someone else!
