Zechariah 12:10-11

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on Me, the One they have pierced, and they will mourn for me as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for me as one grieves for a firstborn son. On that day, the weeping in Jerusalem will be great, like the weeping of Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.”

– Zechariah 12:10-11

Devotion

In chapter eleven, Zechariah first showed us that the true Shepherd, The One who gave His life for the sheep, is rejected. Here Zechariah prophesies that Israel will one day be restored through the acknowledgment of her true, though rejected, King. Their spiritual eyes will be opened, and they will recognize that Jesus was their Messiah. Once they realize this, they will mourn deeply and repent for their rejection of the Messiah. Through the prophet Zechariah, the Israelites are being given a future picture of God’s restoration of the nation. Unfortunately, it also prophesies their rejection of their King. There are still tough days ahead for the nation. The worst is yet to come, but God is faithful and He will restore everything and make it right in the end.

The Big Question

In Revelation 21:5, Jesus said, “I am making everything new!” How does God’s promise to restore Israel and Jesus’ promise to make everything new encourage your soul today? What do these promises reveal to us about the heart of the Father and the Son?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
